To travel the route from Argentina to Santiago de Chile players of "Paris-Dakar" Race needed a couple of days, Sebastian Kawa, in the Christmas Eve flight, did so in twenty minutes.
Today, the race among the wasteland of stone, which avoid even condors, began.

But glider pilots achieve great results here, rushing on a particular stretch of speeds 200, 300 and even over 400 km / hr., often with a wing next to the rocks, in a very narrow and turbulent layer of hill lifts. In such flight it is difficult to admire views and the thought of the risks will certainly not improve the result.
Today, however, spared the strongest impressions, and participants designated route along the ridges, reaching 'only' 3500m. Temperature exceeding 30 C greatly fostered the development of strong climb on the rocks. Thus, 319 km stroll took the winners only 2 hrs. I'd like to see on that section of fuel-consuming dragons in confrontation with our gliders powered by the wind.
Our contestants flew separately today. Staszek stabbed a little deeper in his favourite Death Valley and guarded Carlos'a Roca, Sebastian pushed forward without looking at anyone. Mario used it and in 7.7 m/sec thermal he reached a height of 4500m, which guaranteed him a quick proceed to finish line. Sebastian also found 6m/sec little further,
but in such a quick flight had to deduce his gentle lady away from the turbulent hill lifts and accept, with a very good at start, the third position. German Kiessling won, before Chilean Rocca and Stanislaw was the fourth. As usually happens in the first phase of the most important professions - connection failed. There was no info from the route. Let's hope that organizers will be able to replace the bad cells of the system. Tomasz Kawa |
